5/4/2016 0 Comments ImmerseI entered this years Duo Magazine Portrait Prize for 2016. Entering my artwork titled "Immerse". I was unlucky to not receive a place in the finals. However I feel by creating this piece of work I am evolving as an artist. With the help of my friend Mia, who motivated me to capture my vision, thank you. And for the help from my subject Steve, who modeled for me. If it wasn't for these two wonderful people I would not have had the opportunity to even try and capture my vision and would not have an image to enter into the Duo Awards. Again thank you Mia and Steve.
My artist statement Title: Immerse One in five Australians will experience mental health problems whether to be first hand or know someone with mental illness. Immerse allows us to feel the loss and despair of those who suffer. There is always hope and hopefully a light at the end of the tunnel, music can make you feel at peace. My subject gives the viewer a feeling of looking out but through the viewer, this gives the viewer the empathy in which I am portraying through my artwork. There are many types of mental illness, depression being one of these. The colour palette I have chosen helps to portray the loss of desire for life. The subject wears a cap in symbolising mental health and a community fundraising day is Hat Day for Mental Health on 7th October.
