ANZAC Day is a anniversary to pay respect to those men and women who fought for their nations. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. We pay respect by having an annual parade/march. This year was a special year to be in attendance at at the parade which was held at The Strand, Townsville. My great nephew Hayden asked his Pa if he could wear his medals and march. A special bond is noticed between these two even though Hayden is only 5. Hayden's mum/my niece Rebecca marched with him. My dad/Pa was in the Royal Australian Airforce (RAAF) and served as a Load Master in the Vietnam War. I recorded a interview with my dad who described some of the time spent there. Maybe I need to record more of these times in a more in depth interview, as he only talked about his experience briefly. These stories then can be shown to his great grandchildren so they know the history of their ancestors something we never had the opportunity to record stories of our own grandparents, or was it that we never though of it. The parade on ANZAC day starts with the light horse men, this brigade was one which fought in the war at Gallipoli April 25th 1914. I was not paying attention at the march and they started to come past where we were standing, why I was unfortunate, but fortunate enough to get a photo from afar. I have captured a few photos of my father watching the parade as he is unwell and it was great to see him actually out and about being able to watch his great grandson march with his RAAF Association. I enjoy capturing events through photographs and hope you also enjoy watching my slide show I have collated for you below. The Army and Airforce march, but also the school. Last year my daughter marched but unfortunately we didn't hand the note in time this year, would have been extra special if she had of marched aswell. :) Here is my ANZAC post from last year with my daughter marching. |
